Trainer Tried & Tested – Gifts for the Dog in Your Life (and the dog lover, too!)

Gift Giving Made Easy

In this season of gift giving, we wanted to share some of our favorite picks for your dog and the dog lover in your life.  All of these are tried, tested and enjoyed and were given Two Thumbs Up from the trainers here at Cold Nose College and Four Paws Up from our own dogs.

The Flirt Pole

This fabulous tool by Squishy Face Studios is an awesome gift for your dog this season! It provides an incredible outlet for doggie energy when you can’t spend time outdoors during the cold winter months or if you only have a small area in which to play. It’s also a great toy for people who aren’t physically able to run around quickly with their dog. Your dog still receives some much needed exercise while you can remain mostly stationary.  Here’s a short video of the flirt pole in use and how fun it can be for your dog.  Tiffany Lovell, CPDT-KA, CSAT, Cold Nose College Space Coast

Invincibles Snake

All the toys made by Outward Hound are high quality, well made toys, though the Invincibles Snake is the number one “go to toy” for our own two high-energy Australian Shepherd dogs. The Invincibles Snake entered our home nine years ago and our dogs have played hard and tugged together with this toy between them time after time with no damage to the toy. It’s provided years of enjoyment for them and a ton of laughs as I watch them enjoying the “Sneaky Snake,” as we affectionately refer to it in our home.

It’s incredibly durable and even if one of the squeakers is punctured, it still squeaks!  Check out our guy, Cody, enjoying it and here’s a video of how I used it with Willow as a puppy to help her learn to enjoy young children in a school setting.    Lisa Waggoner, CPDT-KA, CSAT, PMCT2

The Pet Tutor

Need to teach your dog to love her crate? Stop barking? Help your dog go to a mat and stay there? Slow down your dog’s pace of eating? Provide more mental stimulation for your animal? Pet Tutor to the rescue.

Whether human or canine, it’s easy to get addicted to the Pet Tutor, the newest remote, high tech treat dispensing system on the market. After hearing all the buzz about it from several of my trainer friends, I purchased one and after a quick, easy setup, our dog, Cody, was addicted to it in less than three dispenses (and so was I!). The Pet Tutor from Smart Animal Training Systems is a patented smart wireless training, feeding and game system for your pet (dogs, cats, birds, or other animals) that gives you new and innovative ways to remotely reward your animal for any number of desired behaviors.  In this video you’ll see how I used it in a nose targeting game with Willow.  It’s a little pricey, so may be best suited for trainers and serious dog  hobbyists.   Lisa Waggoner, CPDT-KA, CSAT, PMCT2

Dog Training DVDs

Whether you want to help your dog learn how to focus on you, teach your dog to Come, or learn how to enjoy stand up paddle boarding or dock diving with your dog, you can enjoy learning at your own pace and in the comfort of your own home from viewing any one of our training DVDs.

Each of these are now available through Tawzer Dog via video on demand! No more worrying about misplacing or loaning out the DVD and not remembering to whom you loaned it (yep, been there done that!). And we’re really happy that our Rocket Recall DVD has been one of the top trending DVDs on the Tawzer site.  There really is such peace of mind when you have a solid recall for your dog!

Chuckit Ball

The Chuckit Kick Fetch Ball is one of Cody’s favorites and mine too. It’s large enough to be kicked as a soccer ball but has big ridges that make it easy for most any dog to pick up. It’s a tough durable toy your dog will love, though best suited for medium to large breeds as the wee ones would have difficulty picking it up. And it floats, too!  Brad Waggoner, CPDT-KA, KPA CTP

So we have the dogs covered. What about the dog lover in your life?

Give the gift that keeps on giving – a subscription to the two favorite publications of our team of trainers:  Whole Dog Journal and Bark Magazine. You can count on both to have a wealth of solid, trusted, fun and informative information for you and your dog each and every month.

Happy Gift Giving from all of us at Cold Nose College!
