Meet Your Cold Nose College Dog Training Faculty

Founders: Lisa and Brad Waggoner

Lisa and Brad Waggoner are the founders of Cold Nose College, a labor of love that has blossomed into world-renowned learning opportunities for both professional dog trainers and dog owners. The mission of Cold Nose College is keeping dogs in their forever homes by fostering trust and understanding for both ends of the leash.

Lisa and Brad are well-known for their clear, compassionate, and engaging communication skills. They are dedicated to helping dogs and their people form a strong bond and enjoy their lives together whether it’s by coaching and mentoring professional trainers or self-paced, on-demand courses. “Where cold noses meet warm hearts,” is an exact description of their approach. You will see Brad and Lisa’s warmth and care in their interactions with both species.

Brad and Lisa are both Certified Professional Dog Trainers—Knowledge Assessed, and both faculty members of the prestigious Victoria Stilwell Dog Training and Behavior Academy. In addition, Lisa is a Certified Trainer of the Pat Miller Dog Training and Behavior Academy and a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer, also co-instructing that program with founder Malena DeMartini in its early years. Brad is a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner, a Fear Free Certified Trainer, and has TAGteach primary certification through TAGteach International. TAGteach is an innovative, positive program for teaching humans. Training dogs means teaching people as well, and Lisa and Brad are exemplary in both their credentials and their devotion to helping both the dog and human end of the leash.

Committed to education and community service

Brad and Lisa make frequent television appearances on WRCB-TV’s 3 Plus You Show in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and work as the professional dog trainers in the Rescued Program, Saving Detainees and Dogs One Life at a Time, at the Colwell Probation Detention Center. They received top awards for this service from the Georgia Department of Corrections: Volunteer of the Year (2012 and 2014) and Volunteer Partner Agency of the Year (2018). Lisa writes a monthly dog training column in The Cherokee Scout and has written for the Whole Dog Journal, BARKS from the Guild, The Chronicle of the Dog, and other publications.

Lisa and Brad have filmed four educational training videos that were produced by and distributed through the DVD and VOD streaming media company Tawzer Dog, including the highly regarded Rocket Recall™ method, which has been widely adopted by dog owners and professional trainers alike.

The two have worked remotely with clients and taught students from across the U.S., in Europe, Iceland, and in Australia. In these post-days of the pandemic when so many service providers have been forced to switch to online services, it’s important to note that this innovative pair has already been doing virtual training successfully for years.

Our promise

Cold Nose College focuses on fostering trust and understanding between companion animals and the humans who care for them. They use positive reinforcement in building strong relationships with both their four-legged and two-legged clients. With Cold Nose College, you will receive empathy, understanding, professionalism, problem-solving, and training excellence the organization has always provided. Cold Nose College has a rare combination of rock-solid methods, openness to innovation, and responsiveness to the needs of the community. And don’t forget, best of all, Cold Nose College makes training fun.

“In the past learning could be difficult for me and I didn’t always have the support or understanding from my teachers that I needed. You gave me so much support, confidence, and advice throughout and I could not have done this without you! You have a calming energy that really put me at ease. My favorite moments were training live with you!” – Lizzy Scollo, Villalobos Rescue Center

Tiffany Lovell

Tiffany Lovell is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) and excels in both dog training and client communication skills. A skilled teacher, Tiffany is a co-Instructor of the Separation Anxiety Certificate Program and a Faculty Advisor for the Victoria Stilwell Academy of Dog Training and Behavior. She had the honor of becoming the very first graduate in the country with a specialty of Animal Assisted Interactions. Tiffany was the top scoring graduate of her Pat Miller Peaceable Paws Level 1 Intern Academy and Level 2 Behavior Modification Academy. She is also a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer (CSAT) through Malena DeMartini.

Tiffany “grew up” as a trainer at Cold Nose College with Lisa and Brad as her mentors. She took her dog through all their classes, couldn’t seem to leave, and the three mutually decided that she belonged there. She is a native speaker of force-free training, having never used aversive methods.

Tiffany has a special love for the fearful dogs and challenging cases. She is expert at bridging the gap of understanding that can exist between dogs and their guardians. Clients and the trainers she coaches find that she is a superb listener, non-judgmental, and comes up with solutions that fit with clients’ values and lifestyles. She loves the “light bulb moments” at both ends of the leash. Sometimes it’s when a fearful dog learns that he is safe or a dog suddenly “gets it” when being taught a skill. Sometimes it’s when the guardians start to learn what their dog is saying to them.

Prior to becoming a full-time professional dog trainer, Tiffany worked as a veterinarian assistant and veterinarian nurse, during which time she gained a wealth of experience handling dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages. She also brings from that experience keen observation skills. She received a Volunteer of the Year award for her dedication to the Rescued Program in Blairsville, GA, which teaches detainees how to properly care for and train shelter dogs using humane, force-free techniques.

Tiffany has a passion for knowledge in her field and is regularly continuing her education by attending national conferences, seminars, workshops, and webinars to learn from leaders in the training and behavior field such as Karen Pryor, Pat Miller, Kathy Sdao, Kay Laurence, Jesus Rosales-Ruiz, and Ken Ramirez.

Tiffany says that if her legacy is nothing more than helping people understand dog body language and how to listen to their dogs, she’ll be proud. But it is already much more than that. Her empathy and problem-solving skills have already helped keep countless dogs in their homes with happy guardians.
